Eldergrow Program

Sowing seeds for pleasure and improved health

The Eldergrow Experience at The Herrick House

A lot of good can come out of gardening. At The Herrick House, we proudly partner with Eldergrow. This award-winning company brings therapeutic gardens for seniors indoors. Our Eldergrow program helps you enjoy all the benefits of gardening and the pleasures that come with it, year-round.

Gardening with Purpose

The Eldergrow program at The Herrick House is designed for our memory care residents and those receiving skilled nursing. It features bright, fragrant plants and herbs and is part of what makes The Herrick House special.

Eldergrow offers residents with Alzheimer’s and other dementias a connection to nature that supports meaningful engagement through evidence-based therapeutic horticulture classes. The setting around a sensory garden supports meaningful and sensory interaction. Recent studies show impressive benefits from this therapy.

Eldergrows Therapeutic Horticulture Program is a full-service program that combines their Sensory Garden with onsite educators who teach evidence-based, therapeutic horticulture classes that improve life for our growing community of older adults living in residential and assisted living communities.

Health Benefits of Gardening

Perhaps one of the best — and often unrecognized — aspects of gardening is all the health benefits that come with it. Research out of the University of Washington showed that therapeutic horticulture may reduce risk factors for dementia by 36%. What’s more, therapeutic horticulture can:

  • Decrease agitation
  • Elevate mood
  • Enhance sleep
  • Improve motor skills

In short, gardening is just good for you.
